Last month, I quietly launched a few oyster-inspired designs. I’m thrilled to share that they were generously received. With that encouragement, I thought it was the perfect time to formally introduce them.
Oysters have long inspired me from years lived in tidal plains to my earliest design work in architecture. They are symbolic of transformation, harmony, and resilience, themes that continue to shape my creative practice today.
Here is my oyster concept and what it means to me:
The oyster, by living harmoniously in nature, illustrates the balance of the natural world. The oyster meets adversity and instead of perishing, embraces the opportunity to create a beautiful pearl. This process of creation reminds us that nature balances the relationship of all elements, positive and negative, to sustain a harmonious existence. We need to look to nature as an example of how to balance our daily lives.
There are big plans for this little shell. I’m currently forging partnerships with marine conservation organizations to support the environments that inspire my work. A portion of the profits from the bronze key rings and bag charms in the Oyster Collection will go directly toward marine conservation. This is a small way to give back to the ecosystems that give us so much.
Warmly,
Amanda
